DODONPACHI MAXIMUM App Reviews

An excellent shooter

This is the first mobile game that I actually enjoy. The control and hit detection are picture perfect, and the game has just the right difficulty. My only complaint is minor, and is related to the visual style. All the backgrounds share a wire-frame aesthetic, and as such all look alike. The same can be said for the enemies, which can also blend into the backgrounds. Aside from those minor complaints, this is a great shooter to play on the go.

Outstanding

Excellent game. So glad it got updated for the new iOS. Cave’s games were so good I actually have an iPad 2 with an old iOS just to play these games. Instant buy. Really hoping Cave will start releasing or rereleasing their catalog because it’s truly outstanding.

Updated finally

I thought the Cave shooters were dead and buried after the 32 bit appocolypse but holy cow here we are. Just happened to see it was updated from TouchArcade and boy is it nice. The Dodonpachi games fill out the screen on iPhone X and they are still just as brutal as ever. Hope Cave updates more of their library. Btw Cave please send some love to the Nintendo Switch.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!! CAVE DID IT AGAIN

Thrilled with my purchase I did not know there were exclusive cave games on mobile!! And the control is so smooth!!! Please cave never stop making bullet hell shmups you are by far the best at them out of the whole video game industry your games shaped my childhood. Thank you once again for another amazing game and never stop!! Fingers crossed for mushihimesama 3 and more dodonpachi! Really love every game you guys make though keep making classics! My dream is to have enough money to fund you guys making more games like this one

Decent but the worst available Cave game

First, DO NOT buy if you are running iOS 11, it will not work (one reason I am sticking with 10.3.3 on my devices). This was the one Cave game I was missing until recently because I did mot have an iPhone or compatible iPad. It is very different from the others in that it tries to be a simulator with progression similar to the Darius games (see Dariusburst SP in the store) and you can eventually have a total of 5 ships instead of 2-3. The graphics & sound are nowhere as good as the other games, nor is the gameplay. Not a terrible game but only worth it for Cave fans/collectors. Buy the other ones first. Also, the game CAN be played on iPod 5 & 6, but you first have to buy it on an iPhone then try downloading it from the App Store until it works in spite of the "not compatible" message. I bought this on my iPhone SE and was then able to download and play it on my iPod 6 with no problems (the game does not need internet)

PLEASE UPDATE ALL YOUR APPS FOR iOS 11, CAVE!

I love all your titles, Cave, and all these mobile ports are outstandingly well executed, but PLEASE UPDATE THEM ALL FOR iOS 11 COMPATIBILITY! PLEASE!!!

Do not buy.

Not compatible with iOS 11.

Amazing shooter great levels

Amazing cave shooter. You get better and better and try to complete 2 objectives each level to unlock the harder difficulty. Great difficult curve from easy to challenging. Still trying to beat special level and 5e. There is an issue where every time I load the game it spends 5 minutes displaying the achievements I have already gotten. It takes up space. Newest iOS version on iPhone 6.

5/5 Bullet Hell

Absolutely magnificent portable shmup from the undisputed masters of the genre, Cave. Using the Tiger Schwert from Ketsui in a DoDonPachi game has never been so fun.

Good game!

Ketsui please ~

Cave beauty

This was just supposed to hold me over until they ported DEATHSMILES 2, but it's so fricken brilliant. Cave's games are the best thing to happen to iOS ever.

ipod5

make it compatible for ipod 5

Ddp max

Bullets. Everywhere.

Greatest shmup!

Runs perfect on my ipod touch 5! Just buy it on itunes or ipad and then transfer it on ipod! Thanks cave!

One of my fave games on iOS

Well... I think many people will agree with me... Cave's games are top-notch and they'll probably keep making/porting awesome stuff like this. Even though all levels look the same, the fun is still there. Thank you.

i paid $7.99 when released

when will they make dodonpachi for iphone 5, that was thee best in the series, but when i played it on iphone i couldnt unlock the hidden character, i mean i played it flawlesly on hard, and hidden routes never let me unlock it, but what ever. and for those who play easy mode ad are disapointed you are fools. beat easy wich is kind of a challenge only on the final stage but still fairly easy, and just click yes to normal mode and theres 11.99 worth of stages. easy mode is just a warm up of for what this game really has to offer. please upgrade Dodonpachi Resurection for iphone 5 screen that was my favorite episode in dodonpachi series. Domo arigato gozaimas cave and aloha from Hawaii.

Waste of time

Biggest waste of time and money these reviews are wrong it's barely worth 99 cents

iPod Touch 5th Generation, Dodonpachi Maximum is not install!!!

The iPod Touch 5th Generation. Dodonpachi Maximum is not installed. Why not Support iPod Touch 5th Generation!!!

No offense

No offense but these reviews have got to be wrong. I don't see any reason why this game is $12. I was pretty disappointed and deleted that game faster thank other app I've ever downloaded. Everyone has opinions. Mine is that it is not worth it.

A must for top down shooter fans..Awesome game! Fix GameCenter integration

If you've played any top down shooter like the raiden series, gigawing, 19XX series, you will love this game. Bullet hell... Controls and graphics are on point.. Cave at their best... Keep up the good work...

Please fix Game Center integration

(1/9/13) Come on Cave. Please fix Game Center. This is ridiculous! I want my GC Achievements. I will still give you 5 stars when you fix GC integration. Also, put some new games on iPhone. Thanks. (DEC. 2012) Game Center Achievements are not working. I paid $7 & expect this game to be flawless. I will give you five stars when you fix this issue. I always expect the best from cave.

Wont run on ipod

This won't install on my 4 white ipod for some reason am i missing something?

Instant Cave Classic

I love the gameplay. Was amazed on my iPhone 5 but it is even better on the iPad 3. Highly recommended for fans of the genre. My only complaints are that the enemies are so stylized that you can't tell what they are until you die and the backgrounds all look very similar. The screenshots shown sum up all of the visuals that I have seen. Despite what another reviewer says the achievements do work. You have to disable easy mode for them to unlock and that is explained when you first launch the app.

CAVE is still in there!

Typical CAVE awesomeness.

Cave

DoDonPachi Maximum is quite a unique Cave shmup, for it is comprised of remakes of levels from previous installments in the series that I have also acquired on the App Store. This game also has multiple ships to choose from, as well as a game difficulty progression that involves player performance in each stage, making it one of the more creative shmups out there.

Bullet hell, Cave, iOS..

Perfect combo!

Cave I still the king of shumps!!!

Great game! As always making nothing but the very best on the ios platform! Keep it up and please release more! Cave 4 life!

Bring ketsui to ios

Or bring guwange or better yet DODONPACHI SAIDAIOUJOU to the iOS I will totally add it to my collection ^_^

Decent…but buy DDP Resurrection first

Made the mistake of buying this first before Dodonpachi Resurrection HD. I am a huge Phoenix HD fan, which I feel mixes the classic pace of games like 1943 (arcade) with more of a Dodonpachi bullet hell style…landing in a nice spot between the two. Anyways, with that preference and style out of the way, Dodonpachi Maximum is a strange game. It's not as satisfying as Dodonpachi Resurrection HD, which is the "instant classic" you should definitely buy first. DDP Maximum makes a good second game to get after Resurrection…if you can finish that game. Phew. Either way, I am stuck with both and actually quite happy. I do play both. Also: if you are "worried" about the lack of iPhone 5 capability on Resurrection HD and favoring this one because of that…don't. This game leaves your time and network name bar at the top (instead of true fullscreen) and the window itself has a border around it, just like the other DDP games out there. The differences in "actual" play area are minimal. Anyways, once I bought this and was not thrilled with it for my first Cave shooter, what I did was try out Espgaluda II, DDP Resurrection and Deathsmiles…personally realized I was having the most fun with DDP Resurrection, so I bit the pink bullet and bought that. Happy with the two, but if you can only get one, get Resurrection.

No itouch support

5th gen itouch should be able to play this just fine. Lazy.

Sooo good, maybe too hard :(

I love it, but I can't beat the last boss >:(

.

Best shmup on app store

Great shooter!

This is a tailored to iOS bullet hell shooter that doesn't disappoint. Shooting is always on, automatically deploys bombs on hit, and level exploration based on meeting goals. The only item that comes across weird is that the graphics look vector and shadowed. This is due to the game being displayed as a simulator but different from the other shooters Cave has put out. Cool game and worth it to test your dexterity.

Bad very bad

What the hell... refound my money

A step in the right direction

A lot of people are complaining about the graphics but I think they are really cool... The bullet sprites are higher resolution than other titles and this game actually looks HD.....I love the unlockable ships, and the non intrusive story you get to watch at the end. Seriously, if you like bullet hell games. Don't think twice. I want to see CAVE make an HD remake of Guwange.

Not really up to CAVE fun standards

I "get" this game but I just don't think the concept is that fun. I should have bought one of their full graphics games instead. This is pricey considering they put almost no art in the game. I don't mind $12 for a full pixel art drawn game but this is pretty lame

Good remix

This is a good remix of classic levels and bosses for beginners and pros. Altogether, this is a weaker offering than the more fully-fleshed predecessors, but the variety makes it highly replayable and more fun to just pick up and play one level at a time than other Cave shooters.

Great entry

Great game for a beginner in the shmup genre or for a hardcore player. Very accessible and fun, highly recommended.

Very nice game

It works great on an iPhone 5, but I'm not being awarded achievements unfortunately. Is there a bug? Ex. I played through 1 full game up to level 4, but did not get the most basic game center achievements.

Easy to play and master

Wanted to put more time into it before doing a review. The way this game is played specifically for the smartphones is great work. Very simplified not only for vets, but for newcomers as well. Don't have to worry much from canceling to tapping buttons, it's all on 1 finger to do everything. Laser bombs are pretty good if u in a tight spot. U pretty slick in doing that, but I don't think it was meant to be used if u know where to dodge. The game itself adds plenty of replay ability, but its not easy if u want to try and reach the hardest stage. Also, I'm glad they didn't stray off from their purpose into their games. Even though u have an easy mode it's still difficult on some spots. It's 1 of the reasons why I buy your games, it's the challenge, to improve yourself and that's what missing in games these last few years. I'll be looking forward to more of your games in the future, keep up the good work.

Cave, doing it big.

Cave still manages to impress me on iOS. The controls are tight for a touch screen shmup. And this is coming from a fan that has a semitsu stick for my shmups. I'm glad that my favorite franchise made it to this platform. The music, the the correct slowdown and mayhem is much present in this title. The two finger tap for laser(the effects are awesome btw)is highly recommended and intuitive for this game. Having some great monitor headphones(I use SONY MDR-V6)makes the OST shine even more with this fine mix soundtrack. All I need is Akai Katana, and I'm good :-)

Need to add ipod touch 5th gen support

The ipod touch 5th gen is listed as supported here, but it will not let me install it on the device. So now I'm stuck with a game I can't play! I bet the game itself is good and I can't wait to play it and I'm sure the 5th gen touch can run it, so please update it to fix this mistake and allow me to install the game.

Awesome shooter

I love the art style and the controls are just as responsive and tight as they should be. Enemies are in a cool digital art style and could use a little more detail but bosses are awesome and you better bring your A game for this beast, "Maximum" is a pretty accurate title. Works great on my iPhone 4 and iPad 2. Going to go play some more.

Don't waste your money.

Phoenix HD is better in every possible way.

Amazing!

Probably their best mobile game yet.

Very good but not "great"

Cave is my favorite shmup developer of all time. In fact, when I go back and play the classics I loved growing up I don't think any of them live up to the standard that Cave has set within the genre. This game has a cool premise, in that it is a bullet hell simulator...sort of like a virtual Tron-esque shoot em up. Very cool idea. The graphics are very unique to the genre, and I love how everything looks pixelated on purpose (your ship even leaves a ghost like pixelate trail behind as you move around the screen). The biggest problem though, is that all the levels looks way too similar. If I were to look at screenshots of all of the levels in the game I'd be hard pressed to notice any differences. Even if they switched up the color schemes that would have been cool...but its like you're playing the same level over and over but with different enemy patterns. The only other issue I have is that the weapons are kind of bland...if there are any upgrades I guess I failed to notice them. Other than those 2 gripes though, its still a Cave shooter and it controls PERFECTLY on my iphone 4. I remember when I downloaded the my first Cave game for iOS, I had a very hard time believing that the control on a small touch screen device could rival or even eclipse the accuracy of playing a shmup on my Xbox 360. But Cave somehow pulled it off! In fact I prefer playing Espgaluda 2 on my iphone over my xbox...its like shmups were made to have touch screen controls all along...its much more fluid movement in my opinion. So all in all, this is a solid release....its just not as awesome as Espgaluda, Bug Princess or the other Dodonpachi's on itunes.

Cave

One of the only Japanese developers who know how to translate old school gameplay to modern tech without losing much, if anything. Support their releases if you (like me) already feel worn out by most iOS game tropes.

Stripped down version of their other apps

But still very fun and it still blows other iPhone danmaku shooters out of the water. Get it while its on sale and you won't be disappointed.

ファンサービスが良い

怒首領蜂だけでは無く、ケツイのステージとかもあるのがいい。ただしできれば画面の大きさを小さく変えたい。
