Very good but not "great"
Cave is my favorite shmup developer of all time. In fact, when I go back and play the classics I loved growing up I dont think any of them live up to the standard that Cave has set within the genre. This game has a cool premise, in that it is a bullet hell simulator...sort of like a virtual Tron-esque shoot em up. Very cool idea. The graphics are very unique to the genre, and I love how everything looks pixelated on purpose (your ship even leaves a ghost like pixelate trail behind as you move around the screen).
The biggest problem though, is that all the levels looks way too similar. If I were to look at screenshots of all of the levels in the game Id be hard pressed to notice any differences. Even if they switched up the color schemes that would have been cool...but its like youre playing the same level over and over but with different enemy patterns.
The only other issue I have is that the weapons are kind of bland...if there are any upgrades I guess I failed to notice them.
Other than those 2 gripes though, its still a Cave shooter and it controls PERFECTLY on my iphone 4. I remember when I downloaded the my first Cave game for iOS, I had a very hard time believing that the control on a small touch screen device could rival or even eclipse the accuracy of playing a shmup on my Xbox 360. But Cave somehow pulled it off! In fact I prefer playing Espgaluda 2 on my iphone over my xbox...its like shmups were made to have touch screen controls all along...its much more fluid movement in my opinion.
So all in all, this is a solid release....its just not as awesome as Espgaluda, Bug Princess or the other Dodonpachis on itunes.
